In today’s culture of consumerism and big business it’s important to make sure that our kids know what Christmas is really all about. Recently a study by a shopping centre in North London found that one in three children questioned believed that Jesus Christ plays for Chelsea, half though that he was born at the North Pole and one in six believe that Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was there to witness the birth of our Lord. Shocking, isn’t it? Kids should be taught the facts! They should be made aware that the nonsense they believe about Jesus being a footballer is dangerous and offensive. He was, as everyone should know, a magic carpenter*. So a few years back, to remind us all of the true meaning of Christmas, Matt Berry and friends produced this short musical based on the Story of the Nativity.
Please watch it through – it only lasts half an hour – and let it remind you that Christmas isn’t about presents, over-indulgence or money: it is actually all about the funk.
* not to be confused with “magic carpet”
